Love the theme Marco, thanks for opening up this conversation.

1. feature images – the theme allows you to select to [Show post’s featured image/video/quote] as “Full Width” or “In the Content”, I’d like the ability to not show it at all. (so it is used only for thumbnails but not in the actual article.)

2. breaking news – I’d like to be able to choose if this is displayed at the top or the bottom of the site.

3. authors – I’d like to be able to select which user roles are displayed on the author’s page (i.e. I don’t want subscribers displayed, but some people might.)

Thanks Marco. I didn’t know you needed to have 2 items to make it work (is that in the documentation or notes somewhere and i missed it? )

One feature request – could you make this configurable so it could appear at either the top or bottom of the site? If it’s “BREAKING NEWS” I’d probably want it at the top rather than the bottom.

Hi Marco.

Sorry I was unclear. I have created and published a Breaking News->New Spot – and it is not being displayed.

I don’t understand.

I created the menus using Appearance->Menus
I set the navigation to use the menus I want in using Appearance->Customize->Navigation (and I get the problem I outlined above)

I can’t see anywhere else within the Admin Panel where I can set the navigation.

am I missing something?

replacing single.php causes the problem I described above. (When I open a post, the contents of the post is not displayed.)

I will follow-up with Android details in a couple of hours.

One other thing I noticed, which I think is related to the Feature Images, is that the feature images are not being displayed when I view my blog on the browser on my android phone.

I’ve copied the frameworks folder from OldPaper to OldPaper Child, but I get the following error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare iw_post_format_icon() (previously declared in /home/alexacla/public_html/unsweetened.ca/wp-content/themes/oldpaper_child/functions.php:5) in /home/alexacla/public_html/unsweetened.ca/wp-content/themes/oldpaper/functions.php on line 19

So, I went back to OldPaper and replaced functions.php and single.php with the custom versions in the zip above.
Works great for the thumbnail, but it no longer displays the actual posts.

Next, I reverted to the original single.php.

So – OldPaper w/ new functions.php = thumbnails from first image in post showing up home page, index & archive pages YAY!

But without the single.php mod I’m still getting double images if I do have a feature image set.

Here’s what I did:
– installed & activated Old Paper Child to avoid making mods to the main theme and risking losing them when you send out updates.
– uploaded functions.php and single.php you provided to Old Paper Child theme’s root directory
(perms: 0644 or 0744)

I got the following error when attempting to view the site:

Warning: require_once(framework/iw-framework.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/alexacla/public_html/unsweetened.ca/wp-content/themes/oldpaper_child/functions.php on line 23

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘framework/iw-framework.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/alexacla/public_html/unsweetened.ca/wp-content/themes/oldpaper_child/functions.php on line 23

We looked quickly at the code, and it looks like the error might be because I am using the Child theme but I’m not 100% sure and I don’t know how to fix it even if it is.

Hi Marco,

I’m using the defaults (which means I can’t see the font size being used).

Changing the font size changes is changing the spacing of the header as well.

Can you tell me what the default settings are (or where to find them) so I have the baseline to work with?
